This year’s gala, an important fundraiser for the Museum, centers around our current exhibition, REDRED, which opened January 15th, features works by ten artists who use red not necessarily as a predominant color, but because it conjures up a specific emotion or plays a vital role in the work’s narrative.  As exhibition curator Heather Cammarata-Seale explains, red is a paradoxical color; a color of contradictions and extremes.  Cammarata-Seale, the curatorial associate for modern and contemporary art at the Princeton University Art Museum, said she hopes viewers will draw a deeper appreciation of the multiple meanings the color red can represent after seeing this exhibition.  “I hope that visitors realize that red is not only visually impactful but filled with historical, metaphorical, and symbolic meaning, she noted. “I hope they recognize that artists are not only using the color for its beauty but for its cultural associations and inherent chromatic qualities.”

The theme of the gala was born from this beautiful exhibition.  The gala’s tagline, “Decidedly chic, intensely passionate, shamelessly bold… Undeniably RED,” inspires all gala details from invitations to décor to the fine food that will be served thanks to our partners, 15 Landsdowne and Metropolitan Seafood Company.  The gala will also carry a particular liveliness with the samba dancers from Samba Viva who will certainly add passion and heat in a unique way, similar to the color red!

It is because of the generosity of sponsors and donors that the Hunterdon Art Museum lives our mission—to engage people with contemporary art, craft, and design in ways that educate, challenge, and inspire.
