Come celebrate our exciting Contemporary International Tapestry exhibition, which runs until May 10, 2015. We have several exciting programs that you won’t want to miss.
Contemporary International Tapestry highlights the work of three generations of artists from nine countries who are elevating tapestry to a whole new level of technical and aesthetic excellence. The exhibition featuring 39 artists will fill three of the four Museum galleries, and includes loom work by some of the most renowned artists working today.
Join us for these exciting programs:
Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.: Weaving Demonstration and Guided Tour with curator, Carol K. Russell.
Carol K. Russell, curator of the exhibition Contemporary International Tapestry, will lead a tour through the exhibition answering guests’ questions about artwork and providing insight into the world of tapestries. Prior to the tour Carol will give visitors a weaving demonstration, showing how a tapestry is constructed to give tour goers a better understanding of the level of complexity that goes into creating the amazing works of art on display. Space is limited, please register in advance. Cost: Free with admission; for all ages.
Sunday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A Day of Contemporary Tapestry with renowned tapestry artists Archie Brennan and Susan Martin Maffei.
A Day of Contemporary Tapestry will feature lectures, lunch from Metropolitan Seafood, and an interactive demonstration with master weavers Archie Brennan and Susan Martin Maffei. Both artists will have artwork displayed in the exhibition Contemporary International Tapestry.
Tuition is $50 or $40 for Hunterdon Art Museum members.
Sunday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m. Hand Weaving Tapestries For Kids with Carol K. Russell.
Russell returns to HAM to teach children ages 6 and up about hand weaving tapestries. This workshop is a great opportunity for children interested in the artwork on display in the galleries to learn how that work is created right from the curator of the exhibition. All materials will be provided. Tuition: $40; member: $30.
