840 Poetry of Visual Art with MaryAnn Miller
Of course, the Greeks had a word for it. Ekphrasis is poetry about visual art. Starting with examples from ancient and contemporary poetry we’ll explore a new way to look at and write about art. Your instructor will provide art as inspiration as you learn to “read” a painting or sculpture, gather words, and shape poems using tried and true structures for writing ekphrastic poetry. We will help each other revise and organize our drafts in an atmosphere of comfortable creativity. All levels are welcome. Limited to 6 spaces. Students should bring: pen and/or pencil and eraser, notebook or paper, and a camera or Smartphone camera (for photographing the art).
